I’m back after a long summer break and I find that my favorite keyword tool is getting a sizable makeover. I’ve tried many keyword tools over the years and most have either not done a good job, the developer has disappeared so the tool isn’t maintained or the product is simply poor.
I settled on using Market Samurai as my go-to keyword research tool because it was cheap (relatively) at $149, but this was a one-time payment and upgrades are free. Other keyword tools were online tools that required ongoing subscriptions, and some of these were inordinately expensive (like $70 per month).
Then I happened across Keyword Canine 2.0. It was an online tool and it did require a monthly subscription but it gave results fast (unlike Market Samurai) and, even better, it graded keywords using a traffic light system: green = easy to rank, amber = moderate difficulty to rank and red = don’t bother unless you’re an SEO expert and have good SEO tools.
That system made it dead simple to see which long-tail keywords had little competition and so could be ranked with little effort. A monthly search count was also provided for each keyword so you could see which of the easy keywords had a decent number of searches and which weren’t worth your time promoting. It saved a huge amount of time on doing things in Market Samurai.
It has remained my preferred keyword tool ever since.
Now Keyword Canine 2.0 is being replaced…with Keyword Canine 3.0. This is an overhaul rather than a simple upgrade and the new version can do this in addition to keyword research:
- Tell you how healthy your site is in Google’s eyes
- Tell you how difficult it will be to rank for any keywords
- Dig into the competition’s backlinks to find potential link partners for YOU
- Track your ranking position in 9 search engines
- Mine great long-tail keywords you should be adding to your content
- Find new topics you should be writing about on your site
All these are tools that every webmaster needs to assess how their sites are performing. As far as I’m aware, this is the only place where all these tools are available to access from a single dashboard.
Keyword Canine 3.0’s Keywords Screen
Keyword Canine 3.0 was just launched today. I haven’t had a chance to review it yet (but I will), but going on the strength of Keyword Canine 2.0, I’d recommend it out of the box.
There is a monthly fee of $37/mth (during launch) after which the fee will rise to $47/mth for new members. Fees are locked in when you sign up. If you can afford $247, that’ll cover the cost of the tool for a full year (equivalent to paying $20.59/mth) though this launch offer price will be withdrawn on October 16th. Finally, if you have $497 to spare, that will get you Lifetime access to Keyword Canine 3.0. You’ll never need to pay another cent and all future upgrades are free.
I’m just letting you know about the tool’s availability here as the launch period won’t last more than a couple of weeks. All going well, I’ll have a hands-on review published within the next few days.
